| Ed Eyestone, Two-time Olympic MarathonerWords of wisdom: “The most important aspect of marathon training isn’t how hard you train—it’s how smart you train.” One of the most versatile runners, Eyestone excelled at every distance from the mile through the marathon, making two Olympic teams (1988-92) and numerous World Championship squads. With a career marathon best of 2:10:59, Eyestone was named American Runner of the Year five times. During his running career, Eyestone began writing about races and training, often giving advice to world-class and recreational runners alike. “I found that coaching was something I enjoyed, and felt good about giving back to the sport.” Eventually, it led to coaching at Weber State in Utah and finally, to Brigham Young University where he is the head cross-country coach and distance coach. Born in Samoa to Mormon missionaries, Eyestone went to BYU where he was the greatest distance runner in school history. He is also a frequent TV commentator for road races and also writes a popular column for Runner’s World. Ed and his wife Lynn live in Provo, Utah with their six daughters. |
